Kathryn Jordan Dougherty

Kathryn Jordan Dougherty   Kathryn (Kate) Jordan Dougherty is a 2000 graduate of Delaware Valley High School.  She was a member of the National Honor Society and secretary of her graduating class.  A gifted and versatile athlete, Kate achieved distinction as a three-sport player.  She had an outstanding scholastic career in field hockey, playing varsity all four years, and starting in her sophomore, junior and senior years, serving as team captain in twelfth grade.  She played on the 1997 District Champion team and was invited to play at the National Field Hockey Festival in West Palm Beach, Florida, in her senior year when she was also named to the Conference All-Star Team.

 Kate also was a four-year varsity player on the DV Girls Basketball Team, starting from sophomore through senior year.  She was team captain in her junior and senior years and was awarded MVP 1997-98, and Outstanding Defensive Player 1999-2000.

A four-year starter on DV’s Girls Softball Team, Kate helped her team to win back-to-back District titles in 1997 and 1998.  She won the batting title in 1999, with a 4.14 avg., 29 hits and 12 stolen bases.

She attended the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, earning a bachelor’s degree in Health Science in 2003, and a master’s degree of Physical Therapy, graduating Magna Cum Laude, in 2005.

Kate continued her athletic excellence in college where she played Division II basketball as a shooting guard and posted impressive statistics including first in all-time assists, 451; first in steals, 329, second in assists per game, 4.14; second in steals per game, 3.02.  She ranks seventh in all-time scoring with 1289.  In her senior year, Kate helped her team 22-3 to the school’s first NCAA tourney and captained the team in her last two years.  She became a graduate assistant coach for 2005-06.  

She played softball of USP in her freshman year and ran cross-country for the school in her fifth year.

Working as a pediatric physical therapist with California’s Children Services in San Jose, California,  since 2008, Kate provides help and guidance for children with cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, and many other neurologic and orthopedic impairments. Her joy in life is in helping children to develop abilities to access their world and quality of life.
