Marion B. Almquist

Marion B. Almquist was a member of the Class of 1948 of Milford High School. From 1948 – 1950, she attended Waynesburg College, graduating as a registered nurse from New York Medical College, Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in 1953. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mercy College in 1978. In 1954 she introduced to Pike County the Early Intervention Program, forerunner to the Center for Developmental Disabilities. Having devoted her professional life to children with special needs,Marionwas the first recipient of the Pennsylvania Early Intervention Award. She has been further honored as the cornerstone and foundation of C.D.D. where children were referred to as “Marion’s Kids.” Additionally, she spearheaded the organization Help Our Kids, a committee that supports special needs families. In addition to these accomplishments,Marionhas been a member of the Advisory Board of Pike County Children and Youth, a trustee of Milford Community House, a member of the Board of Directors of Mercy Hospital, and trustee of the Biondo Memorial Foundation. Marion retired in 2010 after forty two inspiring years. She reflected, “I have had the privilege of working with some of the world’s greatest parents as they adjusted to unexpected responsibilities.”
