•     Title 1 Screening Toolspencil

    Our Delaware Valley School District uses a variety of tools to identify student strengths and needs. We also consider parent and teacher recommendations. Parents may request Title 1 Reading services for students enrolled in grades K-5. Students who either demonstrate a need on two or more screening tools, or have a parent or teacher request, are recommended to receive Title 1 services. Parents may request or opt out of these services at any time.

    The following is a brief description of the screening tools we use.

    Bracken (Kindergarten Screening)

    Bracken Basic Concept Scale Expressive is a verbal response test of a child's basic concepts skills expressively. This assessment is administered in a 1:1 environment during the spring kindergarten registration. It helps determine cognitive and language development in prekindergarten students.

     CTOPP-2 (Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, Second Edition)

    The CTOPP-2 is a norm-referenced test that measures phonological lprocessing abilities related to reading. This assessment is administered in a 1:1 environment at the beginning of kindergarten.

     DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)

    This tool evaluates students on a variety of skills basedComprehensive Test of Phonologicupon their grade level. It begins by looking at basic letter naming, phonemic awareness skills, blending and segmenting words, for primary aged students and leads into word reading, oral reading fluency and comprehension. The assessment tool is administered by the reading teachers and generally only takes a few minutes in a 1:1 setting.

     STAR Reading (Grades 2-5) (January, Grade 1)

    In less than 20 minutes this computerized assessment, assesses a broad range of reading skills and then identifies where each student is on a learning progression aligned to Pennsylvania's grade-level standards. Both classroom and reading teachers utilize this information to design reading lessons based upon student strengths and needs The STAR Reading Assessment is administered several times each year and teachers are able to track student growth over time.

    DVOG Screening (Grades 1 and 2)

    The DVOG test is a curriculum based assessment that measures a student's proficiency of writing and spelling. It is based on our multi-sensory approach to teaching basic language skills, concepts, and rules.

     SRI Scholastic Reading Inventory (Grades 3-5) (January, Grade 2)

    Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) Interactive is a computer-adaptive assessment designed to measure how well students read literature and expository texts of varying difficulties This psychometrically valid assessment instrument can be  used as a diagnostic tool to place students at the best level in the program so they can read with success. This assessment also provides students with a LEXILE level range which is extremely helpful for students to select books for our Reading Counts program.

     PSSA (Grades 4 and 5)

    Students in grades 3-5 take the state assessment each spring. The PSSA Reading assessment evaluates students on a variety of skills based upon the state standards. These skills include reading comprehension, grammar, and writing. As a comprehensive reading assessment we utilize this tool to gauge student reading needs.
