• Opening the "gate" at the bottom of the Header Tank allows water to flow through the "launder" (hence laundry) onto the wheel.
• As water is released from the Header Tank (see image 4 above) more water flows through the pipe to maintain the same level of water in the tank and the millpond.
• The flow of water is caused by gravity (there is no pump).
