Dear Grade 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
Parents,
We are starting our school year
Reading Incentive Program. Again,
this year your child will be reading to earn D.V.E.S. Wampum.
The way it works for second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades is by
using the Accelerated Reader Program. This
program will keep a running record of the books each child reads.
Book selections come from the Accelerated Reader List that is in the
classrooms and the library. Points
are assigned by the difficulty of the book.
The following chart below is for each grade levels required points. These points will be accumulated from September 1, 2007
through January 18, 2008 and will be used for January’s Winter Extravaganza.
Points from January 21, 2008 through May 16, 2008 will be used for the
Summer Extravaganza.

5th
and 6th grade: You
will be invited to the Super Sleepover if you get all of the shopping points for
September, October, November, December, January, February and March.
We will generate a report of
Wampum each month so the children will get this Wampum to go “shopping.” NO Wampum
will be given to children who do not reach their minimum standards.
(Example: Third grader gets eight(8) points for September – no
Wampum; gets twelve (12) points for October – gets twelve (12) Wampum.)
Again, books may be read at home
or in school. However, all tests
will be taken at school in their classroom.
If you have any questions about our reading program, call your child’s
teacher. Thank you and happy
reading.
Sincerely,
Sonya K. Cole, Principal
