Principal’s
Report
November - 2007
- There
were a lot of smiles on Wednesday and Thursday, October 3rd and 4th.
These were the two days that school pictures were taken and our
students were happy to oblige the photographers with great colorful outfits
and of course “big smiles.” Many
of our PTA moms helped the children get ready for the pictures.
- The
week of October 8th was School Safety Week at Delaware Valley
Elementary School. To kickoff
of the week we had Westfall Police Chief Mark Moglia appear as a guest on
DVE TV. In grades 5 & 6
Cindy Stine of Safe Haven came in to do a presentation titled “Healthy
Relationships.”
- On
Wednesday, October 10th Fran Rosario, district driver, gave a 20
minute presentation for all students in grades K through 6.
The Westfall Fire Department came on Thursday, October 11th
to do a presentation with our Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade
students.
- The
Milford Ambulance came to our school on Thursday and Friday, October 11th
and 12th. They did a
presentation for our 5 & 6th grades students.
- Our
school participated with “Drug Awareness” week.
Our thanks to Students Against Substance Abuse (SASA) who supplied
black and red key chains for the students and staff.
Teachers and students shared information about staying drug and
alcohol free.
- Our
Student Council sponsored a fundraiser this past month.
It was “Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin.”
Fran Rosario, a district bus driver, donated a large pumpkin, which
weighed 170 lbs. Students were
able to guess the weight of the pumpkin for .10 cents a guess.
The winner became the owner of the 170 lb pumpkin.
- On
October 18th all the 3rd graders received a dictionary
from the Milford-Matamoras Rotarians. Representatives
from Rotary were interviewed on DVE-TV and following their interviews they
delivered the dictionaries to each of the 3rd grade classes.
The representatives from Rotary were; Dr. Sam Evers, Tom Murante, Art
Ridley and John Wroblewski.
- Our
tutoring club program has started for all grade level.
We are offering tutoring Monday thru Thursday for grades first
through sixth.
- In
Miss Sarah Casey’s class students wrote a letter to their favorite author.
The class has a song about parts of a letter.
They started a rough copy to help with their letters to their
favorite author.
- Our
annual Story Book Parade was once again a success.
Parents came to watch the parade.
As we have done in the past, each child chooses a character from a
book and dresses up like the character.
Unfortunately, due to the weather they were not able to march over to
the Milford Convalescent Home. We
had to modify the parade because of the start of rain.
- Our
Library Circulation for the month of October was 11,021
Fire
Drill Friday October 19th
– 83 Seconds.
