Letters from Mrs. Gray's Sixth Graders to Veterans - November, 2007

Dear Veterans,
I must thank you so much for sacrificing your lives to keep us healthy and happy! You really have done your best. I do not know how to thank you enough! Our lives were in your hands.
We know we can trust you! You risked your lives to help us and keep the United States rule free! Thank you for doing your best to keep us alive and wealthy. I know you did!
I will pray for ones who die and pray for ones that fight. I will also pray the most for sick and injured veterans and soldiers to stay alive. I pray and thank you! Dead or alive, I thank all of our veterans and soldiers!
Thank you for keeping us safe,
Sincerely,
Jeanine K.

Dear Veteran,

I give you the humblest of my thanks.  I admire your courage towards your service.  Wars and the entire killing thing would really scare me.  I would like to meet you.

I am so happy that I am able to be a free person, and I’m sure all of my other classmates are happy, too.  I love being a free kid and knowing that I will be able to go to college when I’m old enough.

You must really have guts to have been able to do this job, and I appreciate your having had the courage and strength to get out of bed and go fighting.  I know it must also have been hard not to be able to go back home and see your kids get born or go home for Christmas, Easter, Halloween, or a birthday party of your friends or family.  You also couldn’t go back if one of your family members died.  I hope you stayed on the positive side and were good to your general.

In thinking about what you did, I know it would be too unbearable to me to see one of my friends die right in front of me or have a limited amount of food or even run out of it.

So that’s my letter to you.  I hope you are okay and that you were not hurt in the fight.  I admire your freedom-loving spirit and I thank you for fighting for our freedom.

If you can, I would love for you to come and visit our school.  Would you have time to write back to me?

Sincerely,
            Jacob P.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for sacrificing your life to protect our country. The sacrifices you had to make were heroic and brave. You protected all of our lives and endangered yours. I think it is so important that were out there fighting and saving lives. You have let us have our freedom and our own rights. We are all so proud of you here at home. Thank you for all you have done for our country, the U.S.A.

Sincerely,

Iona G.

Dear Veteran,

All I would like to do is take my time right now and thank you for all you have done for us. You fought for us. You are special because you are one of the greatest heroes in our lives. Everyone is equally important, but to my opinion I think you the most important to be born on the Earth.

The reason you are important is because you are very brave.  You fought with having hearts filled with sorrow because your friend might have died. You fought with courage, and you fought with fear thinking that you might die fighting for us.

All I want to say right now if I were there is, "THANK  YOU VERY MUCH!!!"   When I say that, I really mean it. THANK YOU!!

                                                                                      Sincerely,
                                                                                      Harina P.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for taking care of our country.  You are very brave and strong.

Hope you have good holidays.  I thank you for everything you have done for all of us. You are an inspiration to me.

Best of luck,

George S.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for protecting our country. Thank you so much for sacrificing your time and your time with your family to fight for freedom.  It means a lot to me. Without you, we might’ve been fighting one big war. A lot more people would’ve died if you hadn’t helped. It must’ve been hard leaving your family behind and fighting.

It really benefited everyone in the United States. Because of you, the kids of today can be free. It’s great that we have the freedom that we do because without freedom, there would be a lot more rules to replace that freedom.   Women wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things. They wouldn’t even be to have a job! We’d have to stay home, take care of the children, and cook for the men while they made all the money for the family. That wouldn’t be fair. It would be discriminating.

Well, enough about that. What I’m trying to say is that I’m glad you sacrificed your well-being to give us freedom from other countries. Thank you for protecting everyone, not just our land.  You protected the people, too. I think that was very brave and courageous of you and everyone else that fought.

Sincerely,

Emma M.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for your sacrifices for our country. You must be very brave and courageous to have risked your life for us. You have definitely changed our country. You have made it safer for many others and myself.

In some countries people aren’t free. People don’t have rights and don’t have independence. Some countries can’t say what they want to say, and they can’t have their own religion. I can go to school and I have freedom of speech.

I respect my freedom and all those people who have served our country. Our country is free and you have given a lot for us, so I want to thank you for all that you have given.

Sincerely,
Elena E.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting for our country and our freedom. You did a great job. Fighting for our freedom is a brave thing to do. Being brave is courageous. Your work that you did is greatly appreciated. Being a veteran means a lot to everyone in this country of the United States of America. You are all heroes.

You are greatly appreciated and we respect all veterans, which is why we all celebrate Veterans Day. I have a few questions for you. They are what part of the service did you work for? How did you feel working in the service? Did you know anyone who died in the service? What was the greatest and worst part about serving? What were your duties while in the service?

Your sacrifices you made were great. Leaving your family and loved ones was a big sacrifice. You also sacrificed your safety.  When you served, you had the risk of loosing your life. You didn’t know what was coming around the corner next.

Being a veteran and being a hero are great things and you should be very proud.

Sincerely,
Ashley G.

Dear Veteran of the United States of America,

My name is Alexandra H., Alex for short.  I just wanted to say thank you for sacrificing your life for my freedom, my life and everything else.  I think that all veterans are the bravest people that I have ever heard of.  I would be scared out of my wits if I was where you have been, possibly a hundred miles away.  I am still scared, but my mom is always saying that all of you are there to protect me and keep my freedom.

To be a veteran is a powerful thing to be.  To be a veteran means to be a hero to someone, but not only to one person but to people all over the United States of American and maybe even all over the world.

If a girl is reading this, then you are one of my biggest heroes ever because you would have to be very brave to fight and leave your home and family just to honor your country and everyone in it.

Thank you for everything you’ve done.

Sincerely,
Alex H

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for all you have done.  You have fought for our country and kept everyone in America safe. You are a hero and a true trooper.

Veteran’s Day is a day for us to show appreciation for you and all the other veterans, whether in your family or someone else’s family.  I think everyone should celebrate Veteran’s Day, because I think it is good to be appreciative and respectful toward the veterans.

Thank you, because you let me watch TV, play video games and go out in my backyard and be safe.  I am alive today because you and other veterans have fought for rights and to keep everyone safe.  I also, thank you for sacrificing a lot to keep everyone safe.

You have many qualities courage, resilience, braveness, and toughness.

Thank you so much!

                                                             Sincerely,
                                                                          Billy I.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting for our freedom and for our protection.  Thank you also for all the sacrifices you made!

You made such progress with all the sacrificing you made that we all can now go to college, work any job we want, and we can even marry whoever we want!

EVERYONE in this country is happy to live in a wonderful country full of veterans that did, are, and will continue to protect us against enemies!

You’ve been a real inspiration to me.  Thanks!

Sincerely,

Carlton A.

Dear veteran,

My name is Austin A. and I’m writing because I want to tell you how happy I am for being able to have freedom of speech, and for being able to go to school.

I also thank you for the great bravery you showed for us to fight in those great wars. I hope there’s more like you, and I hope they are as skilled as you, too.

I like to study about war and different things like that. Thank you so much; you don’t know how happy I am.

P.s. if you get this letter please, please write back.

                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                        Austin a.
Dear Veteran,

Thank you for all that you have done. You are a very important person in our society. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy this beautiful country you have made for us.

I am proud to live in a country that you helped protect. You deserve a lot of respect from people, especially people in the military now. You fearlessly defended your home time and time again, and if you could, you probably would still be doing it today. Your services to the United States were very helpful and are still honored today

Veterans like you have made the U.S what it is today. You sacrificed everything for your, and our, freedom. For that, many others and I owe you our lives.

Once again, I say thank you.

                                                Sincerely,

                                                Dan R.
Dear Veteran,

Thank you so much for sacrificing your life for us in wars and for what you’ve done in our country.  You have helped make peace between each country. We love what you did for us, whether a war was won or not. Being a veteran means a lot to everyone in the United States of America. Everyone loves your greatly done job.

You fought for our freedom.  Without you, we wouldn’t be free. veterans of all ages have gone out there to fight the wars for us.  There are veterans all over the world; they can be just any normal people. Veterans have made sacrifices for us. They have stayed in wars for years; you don’t get to see your family for years.    Their family is on their own while they serve. Veterans had to be brave and courageous. They put their lives on the line and some even gave up their lives. Veterans fought for rights.

Veterans are heroes.

          Sincerely,

         Sierra B.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for your bravery and sacrifice.

You have sacrificed your time for the ones you love and from your personal time. You were taken from your family, home, even pets, all to protect us and our freedom.  Many people take freedom for granted, but without you I’m sure we wouldn’t have it.

There are a lot of people who have fought in wars, but what they all have in common is their bravery and courage.  All of you had the bravery and courage to fight another day, work another day, and save another life.

Many people have died in wars; they died for us and for this country, and for that we thank you.

    Sincerely,

   Hallie M.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for putting your time and life behind you just to keep us in school.  You left your family and loved ones behind to keep our country safe.  Everyone is still out there fighting for the rights you believe in, that others didn’t; beliefs like using computers, women being able to be doctors and roaming freely, being able to use phones, laptops and possibly even drive cars.

It takes someone very brave to leave their country and fly or sail to another country to protect the citizens of the United States.  You care a lot about us, which is why we honor you, even if you aren’t here to celebrate with us in person.  You also have your own life to protect and still you protected us.

Veterans are very nice people, and all of you reading this are very brave to be veterans.

Veterans need to be strong, brave and fearless.  That is why all of you make good veterans.  It is a privilege to call you our veterans.

Sincerely,

Stefani K.W.

Dear Veterans,

I thank you for all you have done to keep us safe. I think that you really must have missed your family. Sometimes I think your job was cool, but it wasn’t. I think that you are so cool that you protected us when we needed you the most. I think that your family must have missed you very much, and probably your friends, too. I hope that you were able to stay warm at night. Did you ever get a good night sleep? If you did, I really think that it might have been hard to sleep because there was a lot noise going on.

I like what you did for us. I’m glad that you came back to see your family!

So, thank you for all you did for us, and I think that we should do something for you.

 Sincerely,
Rachel T.

Dear Veteran,

Thank you for fighting and risking your life for our country.  I am sorry for any of your friends that may have been injured or died in combat. You are very brave to have gone into war.

If you had not fought for us we would not be free and we would be like other countries that are not free.  Also, if you didn’t fight I would not be able to go to football, watch television, and ride my bike.

I thank you for all you have done for us.  On Veterans Day I will appreciate all that you have done for our country and me.

Our country is free because of you and other veterans that fought for us.  You have a lot of bravery and sacrificed everything to go out and fight and for our country.

 Sincerely,

Wyatt S

Our Fellow Veterans

Dear Veterans,

Thank you for serving for our country in the wars that have happened. I REALLY appreciate what you did for us. I don’t know how to thank you enough from saving our lives from such things even as slavery.

 Sincerely,

☺Kevin Smith☺Our school is a magic place we’re making tomorrow!

Dear Veteran,

Hello, veteran.  I understand you were in the military, possibly in a war, but I am glad you are out now.

We normally get journal things to write about things that happened this week, and we had to write to you, veterans.  I’m not complaining; it is a very good idea to write to you.

In the military, did you have to go through training and were you forced to fight in Iraq or any other war you might have fought in?

Well enough with the questions. I don’t think really any of you wanted to be in war or take a chance of dying but did it out of respect for your country.

Thank you for all you have done.

                         Sincerely,

                                Robert S.
