DVE-TV consists of a special group of sixth graders from our Delaware Valley Elementary School that come to school an hour early each day to write and report for a very unique, live television show called DVE-TV. They produce their own newscast with world, local, and national news, features, sports, weather, and interviews with special guests. Their show airs live, daily in our school and weekly  on public television, Port Jervis/Deerpark Television, in Port Jervis, New York.

Besides their daily broadcasts, these young reporters often go "out on location" for interviews and stories. Some of their "shoots" have included a three-day coverage of the Philadelphia Presidential Summit for Volunteers, trips to the White House, Washington, D.C., Harrisburg, Boston, Gettysburg, Philadelphia, New York City and even Niagara Falls and Canada.

They have produced some great videos and conducted interviews with many special people. Some of the people they have interviewed include former Prime Minister of Israel, Shimon Peres, General Colin Powell, Vice President Al Gore, Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw, Katie Couric, Melba Moore, Governor Tom Ridge, White House Press Corp reporters - Helen Thomas, Cokie Roberts, Sam Donaldson, Brit Hume, Eleanor Clift, Claire Shipman, and others, Nightline host Ted Koppel, and many other important people that they often report about on DVE-TV.   They also had the pleasure of interviewing First Lady Laura Bush and many of their favorite authors, at the First Lady's First Annual National Book Festival in Washington, Parade Magazine editors, U.S Ambassador Ben Gilman, United Nations Spokesman Fred Eckhard, and ABC News Anchor Bill Ritter and News Director Bill McFarland in NYC, and many well-known authors in their school and on location.

They also produced a documentary which includes Governor Rendell, many of the governor's Cabinet Secretaries, and PA Supreme Court judges helping to explain how the various levels of Pennsylvania State Government work.

DVE-TV was started in 1991 by DVES Principal, Sonya K. Cole as a way to give students an opportunity to learn more about what is going on in the world around them and to report it to their peers. She believed that it would encourage volunteerism at a young age, give children the confidence to read and rewrite news stories, and give their reports "live" to the school.  DVE-TV is coached by two staff members, Sharon Siegel and Chris Gawel.
