Karol
Rene Welling
Karol
Welling was a member of the Class of 1979 of Delaware Valley High School.
A member of the National Honor Society and Class President she is the
first DVHS female graduate to attend a service academy, entering the
Air Force Academy as a member of the Class of 1983. There she graduated
with a BS in Engineering while being a member of the Swim Team, achieving
the rank of Flight Commander and being placed on the Commandants List
for Academic Excellence and the Superintendents List for Academic
and Military Excellence. She then served in the United State Air Force
from 1983 to 1991. While in the USAF she served as an C-141 Aircraft
Commander operating strategic airlift of passengers and cargo worldwide.
She served as an instructor to other pilots and eventually as Supervisor
of Flying at Williams AFB, Arizona. Selected for the McMurdo Supply
Mission she flew the C-141 to the Ice Shelf in Antarctica in support
of the National Science Foundation and the US Antarctic Research Program.
Since 1991 Ms. Welling has been employed by Delta Airlines as a Second
Officer on B-727 and L-1011 aircraft and since 1997 as First Officer
on B-757, B-767, L-1001, MD-11 and B-767ER aircraft. Currently she
serves as a Member of the Air Line Pilots Association and the International
Society of Women Air Line Pilots. She is also a member of the US Masters
Swimming Fitness and International Committees.
Keith Stroyan
Keith
Stroyan was a member of the Class of 1962 of Delaware Valley High School. In
1967 he graduated form the Drexel Institute of Technology ranked first
in the college of science with a BS in Physics. In 1971 he graduated
from the California Institute of Technology with a Ph.D. in Mathematics.
Dr. Stroyan then held academic positions at the University of Wisconsin,
University of Iowa, Gesamthochschule Paderborn, Germany, and the Norwegian
Institute of Technology of Trondheim, Norway. He now serves as a Full
Professor at the University of Iowa where he specializes in undergraduate
instruction in calculus. The recipient of the 1996 Council on Teaching
Award and the 1995 University Teaching Award Dr. Stroyan is a frequent
contributor to mathematical conferences all over the world. In 1990 he
organized a research conference on Infinitesimal Analysis wherein 14
leading researchers and their graduate students from as far away as England
spent a week at the University of Iowa to discuss their latest research
results. A frequent author he has published scholarly works including
12 books, software packages, 22 scholarly articles and, as of 2004, has
an additional book and software package in preparation. He also raises
and trains Labrador Retrievers called Shohola Labradors and has written
dozens of articles on these dogs and their training for the NAHRA
News, Retriever Field Trial News. The Hunting Retriever and Ducks
Unlimited.
