Students who utilize creative writing as a form of self-expression often
have to put this art on the back-burner during the school year. Being
bombarded with far too many school obligations and co-curricular activities,
it is difficult to find the time to enjoy writing for expression as opposed
to five-paragraph essays teachers force upon students. Beginning last
year, a creative writing club has been initiated for DV High School students
of all grades.
Advised by English teacher Mr. Bryan Pol, this club kicks off as a
learning experience in writing styles and comparative studies to various
pieces
of literature. Creative writing assignments are given out for students
to run wild with.
The creative writing club allows students’ imaginations
to spill out onto paper, closing the tightly wound left side of the
brain and allowing the right side to flow freely. The club is about nurturing
creativity through a structured format that allows for consistent
self-expression.
The stress of everyday life can become burdensome, but the constructive
outlet that is creative writing club can alleviate a big chunk of
that stress.
