National History Day is an annual competition for high school and middle school students. Students can compete individually or in a group in five catagories :documentary (film), presentation board , paper, website or performance. The entry must be on a historical topic that relates to the year's theme.

The students compete at a regional competition at Penn State Wilkes-Barre in March and the top three entries in each catagory will advance to the state competition at Millersville University in May. The winners at the state level advance to Nationals at the University of Maryland in June.
