Foreign Languages include Spanish, German, and French, and are available for 7th and 8th grades.

 

Spanish I

The students are introduced to the exciting and fascinating language and culture of the Hispanic people. During this one semester course, the students learn to understand and speak in Spanish on topics such as colors, numbers, days, months, greetings, weather, and telling time. Students begin to compose original sentences using the correct form of the verb. Classroom activities include a variety of dialogues, songs, food, audio tapes, puzzles, listening activities, video activities, and writing activities.

 

Spanish II

Spanish II is a continuation of Spanish I that extends vocabulary and grammar with emphasis on various verb tenses. Reading, writing, and speaking are practiced through a variety of creative activities in the target language utilizing more complex topics and grammatical constructions. The students continue to learn about and appreciate various cultural aspects of the fascinating and interesting Hispanic people.

 

German I

The student is exposed to the written and spoken language with emphasis on building vocabulary and practicing pronunciation. Students learn to speak in short but complete sentences. Various cultural aspects are presented.

 

German II

German II is an extension of German I which stresses speaking and writing. The study of German grammar is continued, and cultural aspects are presented as well.

 

French I

The student is introduced to the French sound system, learns to speak in French on selected topics and begins to write in the target language. Basic grammar principles are introduced and vocabulary development is emphasized. Various cultural aspects are included.

 

French II

French II is an extension of French I which furthers the knowledge of the students' grammar, vocabulary, and cultural bases. This work is in preparation for the smooth transition into the advanced courses as well as an excursion to Quebec City.
