Eighth Grade Intergrated Language Arts/ Social Studies This course cover, chronologically, the foundation and growth of the United States from the impact of indigenous American cultures through the Reconstruction Era following the Civil War. The course retains all existing units from the standard language arts curriculum: writing, formal grammar, public speaking, and literature from every genre. The primary instruments for integerating the two disciplines are the literary selections and assessments used throughout the year; these are selected and developed to enhance students' understanding of historical concepts by encouraging them to synthesize information from multiple academic perspectives and to bridge the gap between historical developments and their implications for contemporary society.
