 About DVMS

The Delaware Valley Middle School is one of the two middle schools of the Delaware Valley School District, and houses students in grades 7, and 8. The school is located along the Delaware River, near the tri-state point of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

DVMS students have schedules integrating foreign language, reading, computer literacy, art, music, and unified arts into the basic curriculum of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and physical education.

The curriculum focuses on the child as a whole with emphasis on individual development and growth rather than primarily on academic specialties. The variety of programs and experiences enables students to pursue individual areas of interest and ability. One of the major purposes of the middle school is to provide an environment, conducive to the processes of education, which enables students to make a comfortable transition from elementary school dependence to secondary school independence.

DVMS features a number of exemplary programs, including:

  • a swimming component to the physical education program;
  • an expanded computer lab focusing on writing skills and allowing for added integration in the major subject areas;
  • instrumental and choral music programs that encourage awareness of various kinds of music;
  • clubs that allow students to choose activities in their specific areas of interest;
  • a state-of-the-art technology education program.

The Delaware Valley Middle School has been honored with many laurels, including the following:

  • recognized by the United States Department of Education as one of 104 outstanding middle/junior high schools participating in the Secondary School Recognition Program;
  • recognized by the Pennsylvania State Department of Education as one of seven middle/junior high schools "unusually successful in meeting the educational needs of all their students;"
  • recognized by the Johns Hopkins Talent Search;
  • recognized by the Pennsylvania State Department of Education in the Search for Excellence in Environmental Education;
  • recognized in the National Search for Excellence in Science Education in a non-school setting;
