Reading and Language Arts 6A

This course is designed for the advanced sixth grader. It develops reading, writing, listening, and critical thinking skills essential to the successful student. Challenging approaches to spelling, vocabulary, composition, grammar, and literature units based on novels are emphasized. Technology is integrated into the curriculum.

Language Arts 7A

This course in communication arts is designed to develop skills in writing, speaking, listening, reading, and thinking. Advanced seventh grade students are encouraged to think critically and become life-long readers. The curriculum integrates grammar and language mechanics into all aspects of the writing process; narrative, informative, and persuasive modes of writing are emphasized. Students read literature selections for discussion, interpretation, and analysis. They implement specific reading strategies for both class and independent reading. This course meets Pennsylvania's new content standards and includes a variety of assessments which measure the achievement of these standards.

Reading 7

This course is designed to support students who struggle when reading. It involves the whole language approach to learning, utilizing novels and other reading materials to improve students' skills in reading, writing, spelling, and vocabulary development. Students practice test taking strategies, reading comprehension exercises, speed enhancing exercises, and textbook survey techniques. Students will also prepare in class for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) Reading test by working on reading, writing, and language skills.

Language Arts 8A

This course is designed to reinforce a wide range of communication skills and to provide enrichment experiences in major literary genres, usage, grammar, mechanics, vocabulary, composition, and speech. There is an emphasis on extending learning experiences as students work at an accelerated pace.

This course is designed to develop and reinforce a wide range of communication skills.  The course covers major literary genres, grammar, usage, mechanics, vocabulary, spelling, composition, and speech.

Reading 8

This course is designed to support students who struggle when reading. Specific study skill techniques for reading, listening, writing, dictionary use, and vocabulary development are taught. Emphasis is placed on the reading process through daily independent reading and the reading of other high interest materials. Technology is integrated into the curriculum. Students will also prepare in class for the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) Reading test by working on reading, writing, and language skills.
